Debut this Thursday in Portugal to new works of English Ridley Scott, "The body of lies," the action movie about international politics, with the scenario the Middle East. Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe are the stars.
Ridley Scott will not be an author in the more traditional sense of the term. The diversity rather than thematic coherence, is a key feature of his work. Leonardo DiCaprio, the main point of the movie, here is Roger Ferris, a CIA operation to work in the area under cover. Its mission is to try to catch the head of a powerful terrorist organization, obviously not named as such in the film, but built in the image of al-Qaeda. The plan is Ferris invent a rival terrorist organization, create a fictitious boss and thus that Al Saleem, the Osama bin Laden's movie of Ridley Scott, quit his hideout, leading to his capture. In turn, Russell Crowe is the man who provided the U.S. territory, actually commanding the operations of Ferris.
In fact, what the movie calls into question, as in any "thriller" that I value, is the reality of what we see. This is certainly one of the pitfalls of this type of action films, anchored in scenarios of war coming out every day the house through the television news.
It is that, being in the cinema and not a real scenario, we must identify with the heroes and villains to hate, carrying an oversimplification that life has taught us to renege. And for that, we still have to believe that in the "space" of a film script, you can win this battle. Whatever it may be
