Cesaria Evora recalls start of career

The Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora acts this Wednesday in Lisbon, where only interpret songs that marked the beginning of their careers and were met on the album "Radio Mindelo," to edit this month.

The album "Radio Mindelo," to edit the Lusafrica, brings together 22 coladeras recovered from reels recorded by Radio Windward between 1962 and 1964 and that record the beginning of the career of Cize, with its 20 years.

Cesaria began his career in Cape Verde for 40 years, as recorded for Radio Windward, but the status of "diva of cool" was only won two decades ago in France. "Everything started for me in France but not me I chose, "said the singer Cape Verde in Lisbon on the eve of the concert. Despite the health problems that had this year, Cesaria Evora says he is 67 years in order to decide when and who will ultimately stop.

"I have no idea of stopping. I want to stay for some time, because I have nothing more to do. When I decide to stop and say once and for all. You will not stop to make," warned.

In the meantime, is preparing a new album of originals, successor of "Rogamar" and that must leave in April 2009 by Lusafrica.

As for the future of Cape Verdean music, says that "we have many artists, but the decision is not of artists, the public is, if you like or not like. We must save the roots of our music, but the public is who decides."
